Chinese Bureau returned filtration water bottles imported from Germany

Recently, Binhai Office of Tianjin Inspection and Quarantine Bureau returned a batch of filtration water bottles imported from Germany as they used food contact materials which are unauthorised in China.
 
There are 552 cartons of filtration water bottles totaling 2,208 pieces. Competent officials found the pot lids of those bottles marked with “ASA” during inspection, which indicated ASA was used in the products. However, ASA is not on the List of 107 Resins for Food Packaging Materials published by Ministry of Health of P.R. China.
 
It is forbidden to use resins that are not tested or identified as safe for food packaging materials or food contact products.ASA consists of styrene, acrylonitrile and acrylate. Among which, acrylonitrile monomer (CAS No. 107-13-1) is a CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction) substance. Once it migrates to the food and is absorbed by human bodies, leading to headache, nausea, numbness in limbs and clouding of consciousness. So ASA is not listed in materials for food contact materials in China.
